The Small World Transport Discovery Bag 1-2yrs consists of a set of coloured wooden blocks, wooden transport dominos and 2 sturdy wooden vehicles to spark imaginative play. The set also comes with two engaging books offering opportunities for storytelling and exploration of language while using the wooden vehicles as story props.
Children will develop their pretend play skills and spatial awareness as they drive the vehicles along the floor. Take the vehicles to different types of flooring to discuss how the sound and speed changes as they roll the vehicles.
Challenge children to stack the coloured wooden blocks to create towers and buildings for the vehicles to crash into, helping children develop fine motor skills, hand-eye co-ordination and an understanding of cause and effect.
Introduce children to a range of transport using the wooden domino pieces, explain what colour they are and what sound the vehicle makes. Challenge children to use the building blocks to colour match, for example matching the red blocks to the red fire truck. Extend the activity around the home to find other red items such as an apple, pieces of clothing or toys. Children will enjoy matching the images, supporting their early logical thinking skills.
These simple playful activities and discussions will support children’s early language development and develop their understanding of the world around them.
Use the wooden vehicles alongside the transport themed books. The books are engaging and feature sensory touch-and-feel textures and interactive push, pull and turning mechanisms. Read the book and name the vehicles on the page, encouraging children to point to the correct vehicle. Reading books and playing together is an excellent way for parents to build and strengthen their bond and relationship with their children in meaningful ways.
