Description
Support curiosity and scientific exploration in your EYFS and KS1 outdoor learning environment with the Exploring Nature Resource Collection 3-7yrs. This set has been carefully curated to inspire hands-on discovery, observation and investigation of the natural world.
Featuring a range of high-quality, durable resources including trays, magnifiers, bug jars, tweezers, A4 clipboards, A4 whiteboards and weaving rings, this collection invites children to explore their surroundings in a purposeful and engaging way. Each tool encourages opportunities for observation, recording and discussion, nurturing children’s emerging scientific thinking and vocabulary in real-world contexts.
Children can use the magnifiers and containers to closely examine foraged natural materials found in the outdoor classroom or within their forest school space such as leaves, insects or seasonal natural materials including conkers and pine cones. Foraged natural materials can be sorted, counted and tallied using the A4 clipboards and A4 whiteboards, supporting classification skills, sensory exploration and meaningful mark making.
Children can work together on a nature hunt, collecting items they have discovered, then gather around the Outdoor Table & Storage Seating Set or the Outdoor Investigation Bench to separate materials using the classification trays, weaving rings and green trugs. Introduce mark making and encourage children to sketch or label their natural materials using the A4 clipboards and paper. As they share their observations, they develop language skills, use descriptive vocabulary and practice turn-taking and collaborative thinking.
This open-ended collection promotes environmental awareness and fosters a sense of wonder about the natural world, aligning with the Early Years Foundation Stage and KS1 science objectives. It encourages children to ask questions, make connections and build foundational skills in observation, communication and scientific inquiry.
Designed for repeated outdoor use, this resource collection supports continuous provision and flexible learning across the curriculum and has been curated to withstand busy EYFS and KS1 outdoor classrooms. It can be combined effectively with other outdoor resource collections such as the Exploring Nature KS1 Enrichment Collection to further challenge and engage KS1 children in scientific enquiry and data-handling. Alternatively, combine with the Outdoor Small World Collection 3–7yrs to extend storytelling, creativity and investigative play.
Explore the full range of Exploring Nature Resources to enhance your early years or KS1 outdoor classroom, creating an engaging and inspiring environment where children can learn, explore, and thrive.
