Description
Enhance your early years environment with the Mixed Resource Treasure Basket, a natural, lidded basket filled with a thoughtfully curated collection of wooden, metal and colourful resources, designed to support heuristic play through open-ended, self-directed exploration. This inviting selection enables young children and EYFS children to explore freely and at their own pace, following their natural curiosity and interests.
The wide range of textures, weights, shapes and finishes encourages sustained engagement, curiosity and persistence. As children handle, rotate, stack and combine the objects, they refine their fine and gross motor skills while developing coordination and control. The varied materials offer rich sensory feedback, supporting sensory integration as children notice how each object feels, sounds and responds to movement.
The varied use of colour, contrasting with the natural wooden items and metal items supports early visual awareness, helping children notice similarities and differences. Young children naturally explore how objects look, feel, and respond to movement, developing an understanding of cause and effect through repeated, self-directed exploration. Returning to familiar resources builds confidence, concentration, and independence, while also creating opportunities for shared attention and interaction with others.
Adults can further enrich learning by modelling language, describing textures, colours and sounds. They can describe children’s actions and respond to gestures and vocalisations. This will support early language development, listening, and communication.
